*You have to remember this is what is considered romantic in 2023...* *Eliza* Right from the get-go it contradicts her character telling us she is a hard-working about to be promoted to the position of Junior Executive Planer but what we actually see is a person who is mostly late to work and also has no self-esteem and pushover tendencies. 2:16 At this moment you shouldn't feel bad for her character. On more than 4 occasions she picks losers with no future and then gets betrayed by them.........how does that happen more than FOUR TIMES. Now on to the main problem with her.....she has a toxic friend as a best friend. But it kind of balances out because her friend Sofia is toxic on the surface as Eliza is toxic below the surface. She lets her friend dictate who she should date/marry even those in her words "Is not into the chiseled look" but still pursues a relationship with that man for no other reason other than her friend told her to😑 Lightning round 1) Pretends to drown to meet Rich 2) "Barrows" an expensive dress she can't hope to pay for 3) Has coitus with Rich after (one date) a misunderstanding in which she basically Lies to Rich about Doug 4) Gets mad at Doug when he tells her exactly what she is doing...dating a guy for his money 5) Full-blow cheats on Rich after claiming she loves him 6) Was going to marry Rich even after cheating on him Long story short, The main character wavers between allowing herself to be treated like absolute garbage, and treating others like absolute garbage. This behavior is threaded with rhetoric about feminism as well. I can't see how anyone can possibly like her. *Sofia* The famous toxic best friend they put in movies as the seemingly other half of the main character. This girl's only redeeming quality to her is her looks. She quits a job to follow the rules of dating from a 50-year-old self-help book. Drags her friend along, and tells her what she can and can't do, targets a guy for his money, and cheats on him every chance she gets because she refuses to actually have a healthy relationship with the guy she supposedly going to marry. She comes up with the dress scam and belittles everybody who she deems is unworthy but lucky for her people (in this movie) either pay this quality about her no mind and forgive her because she is considered beautiful. *Doug* Trust me when I say this guy is not a real person. His characteristic are of the typical "nice guy". He is kind, hard-working generous, and not roided out, and apparently, the movie made him a stallion in bed....... The real problem with his character is the moment he finds out she wasn't drowning and was doing it to get some rich guy's attention he should have left her alone completely but he doesn't because the movie gotta movie. His WHOLE ENTIRE connection to her is they both like 80's movies and even after being told he has been friend-zoned it only makes him want to try harder to win this thoughtless Gold-digger. Even after knowing she is dating Rich Hawthorne he still takes her out on a date and kisses her so yeah, he not the good guy the movie made him out to be. After apologizing for the truth he gets her only and straight up has bedroom fun with another man's woman and then has the nerve to be upset that she is confused about who to choose. Then after she and her friends tell him off he still holds out to the fact that she might still choose him.........Something demands that he sacrifice common sense to stay shackled to this abusive narcissist. So in the end you find out he is rich and she picks him and honestly these two clowns deserve each other. *Rich Hawthorne* Role.......................VICTIM!!! He is targeted by two sirens and is played for a fool and cheated on and cheated out of a lot of money only to lose the girl at the end (which is actually good for him in the long run). The movie beats this guy over the head with a bat as it makes him fall for her for some explicable reason and in a few short days he is professing his love for her😩 just to finish him off the movie makes him terrible in bed so you know she was never going to end up with him.
